Explorers House and “Yo Reciclo”: Collaborating for a Sustainable Future

Belinda MacLeay, manager at Explorers House , tells us about the latest sustainability achievement in Punta Arenas. At Explorers House , sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. As part of our ongoing commitment to responsible practices, we recently partnered with Yo Reciclo , a local waste management initiative in Punta Arenas. Through this collaboration, we aim to reduce our environmental footprint and promote a culture of recycling within our community. Yo Reciclo is a pioneering waste management company dedicated to sustainability and circular economy principles. Unlike traditional recycling services that transport waste to Santiago for processing, Yo Reciclo handles everything locally, significantly reducing carbon emissions from transportation. Beyond its environmental impact, Yo Reciclo is also a women-led initiative that creates job opportunities and promotes gender equity in the region. The team transforms recycled materials into new products, such as candles, seed bombs, and planters, giving waste a second life and fostering a more sustainable community. Since launching this initiative, our collaboration with Yo Reciclo has already made a positive impact: Recycling Stations – We have installed dedicated recycling points at Explorers House to encourage proper waste separation. Responsible Waste Management – With Yo Reciclo’s support, we ensure that recyclables are processed sustainably rather than sent to landfills. Engaged and Committed Team – Our staff has actively participated in information sessions and embraced more responsible waste management habits. This is just the beginning. Over the coming months, we will continue working with Yo Reciclo to expand the program, host educational workshops, and encourage sustainable practices across our community.
