Culture in South America runs deep, from the Amazon’s Yanomamo and Kayapo communities—thriving for millennia along winding river valleys—to the lively ports of the Pacific coast. Visits to small Amazon villages reveal traditions shaped by forest and water, while Manaus showcases European influence in its grand opera house. Along the Pacific, Valparaíso’s street art, Coquimbo’s markets, Pisco and Lima’s culinary heritage, Trujillo’s ancient temples, and Manta’s coastal rhythms highlight a different cultural tapestry.

The Amazon is a vibrant pantry of superfoods, medicinal herbs, and freshwater fish, where pato no tucupi, manioc dumplings, and citrus‑bright stews reflect deep forest traditions. Ceviche and chicha add refreshing contrasts along the river. On the Pacific coast, Valparaíso and Coquimbo serve bold seafood and market fare, while Pisco proudly pours the grape brandy born in its 17th‑century vineyards.

Exotic wildlife abounds here. From pink dolphin and jungle cats to piranha-filled rivers, the Amazon and French Guiana shelter staggering biodiversity. Glide past giant lily pads, trek jungle trails to waterfalls and explore a former colony turned wildlife refuge. Canoe quietly and tread softly through this living, breathing sanctuary.
