Galapagos Cruises & Machu Picchu Adventures: A Journey Between 2 Worlds

Some trips leave travelers with souvenirs. Others leave them transformed. That’s exactly what happens on a 10-day adventure with Go Galapagos, combining the ancient heights of Machu Picchu with the otherworldly beauty of the Galapagos Islands. This journey isn’t just about checking places off a list—it’s about rediscovering wonder. And the best part? Guests can choose between 10, 11, or 14-day options, all designed for curious travelers who crave both cultural depth and untamed nature.

How to Visit Both Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands

Organizing a trip that spans two countries may seem daunting, but it’s easier than most expect. Go Galapagos crafts a seamless experience, guiding travelers from the Andean highlands of Peru to the Pacific waters of Ecuador. All domestic flights, accommodations, guides, and transfers are pre-arranged, removing any logistical headaches.

Travel begins in the cultural hub of Cusco before venturing to the Galapagos. Flights connecting the countries are short and efficient, and each stage of the journey builds naturally on the last. There's no need to coordinate across multiple providers—the program is curated for fluidity and ease.

For those who dream of witnessing Machu Picchu at dawn and then snorkeling beside sea lions just days later, this guided experience blends both worlds effortlessly.

Benefits of a Combined Itinerary

• No logistical guesswork
• Professionally guided throughout
• Full immersion in two UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Why Combine a Galapagos Cruise with a Machu Picchu Tour?

Few destinations offer such a striking contrast in experiences. One day, travelers are wandering through ancient ruins in the Andes; the next, they’re paddling alongside penguins in turquoise waters.

Machu Picchu invites exploration into history, architecture, and spirituality. Then, the Galapagos takes over—with raw landscapes shaped by fire, and endemic species found nowhere else on Earth. Aboard an expedition ship, travelers land twice a day to hike, snorkel, or kayak—guided by expert naturalists who bring the islands’ mysteries to life (check our blog: 110 Fun Facts about the Galapagos Islands).

This mix of cultural immersion and natural exploration creates a rare balance—both humbling and invigorating.

Contrasts That Elevate the Journey

• Cultural vs. ecological discovery
• Ancient stone cities vs. volcanic islands
• Altitude adventure vs. oceanic calm

When Is the Best Time to Visit Machu Picchu and the Galapagos?

Timing a trip can dramatically enhance the experience. In Peru, the dry season (May–October) provides clearer views and accessible trails, especially for the iconic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. June to August are peak months, though early May and late September offer fewer crowds.

In the Galapagos, wildlife activity is robust year-round. December to May is warmer with calmer seas—ideal for snorkeling. June to November offers cooler temperatures and incredible marine life activity, including mating rituals of blue-footed boobies.

April shines as a golden overlap: lush greenery in the Sacred Valley and still, warm waters in the Galapagos.

Seasonal Highlights

• Dry season = best for hiking in Peru
• Wet season = lushest Galapagos landscapes
• April = the sweet spot for both destinations

What Is the Peru and Galapagos Itinerary Like?

The 10-day itinerary begins in Lima and quickly ascends to Cusco and the Sacred Valley, allowing time for altitude adjustment. Visits include Pisac ruins, local markets, and a traditional weaving community, culminating in the full-day visit to Machu Picchu.

After Peru, travelers head to Ecuador and board the Galapagos Legend. Each day includes two excursions—morning and afternoon—such as hiking lava fields, visiting nesting sites, and snorkeling with rays and tropical fish.

For those with more time, 11-day and 14-day options add extra depth: more islands, cultural stops, or time in Quito at the luxurious GO Quito Hotel. The extended programs allow for deeper exploration of the Galapagos ecosystem and additional cultural immersion in both countries, making them ideal for travelers wanting to truly absorb the richness of each destination.

Itinerary Highlights

• Day 1–5: Peru (Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu)
• Day 6–10: Galapagos Islands (Expedition cruise)
• Optional: Add 1–4 days for extended discovery
