On a moderate budget, you have three options: a small expedition yacht like Galaxy Orion (from $1,800 per person for 4 days in 2026), a family yacht like Galaxy Bonita (from $2,900 for 5 days), or a hotel stay with Galaxy Skape day tours ($360–$400 each). Cruises include meals, a naturalist guide, and snorkel gear. Flights and park fees are extra.
Many travelers planning a Galapagos trip ask the same question: “We have a real budget, not an unlimited one. What can we do?” The good news is that a budget Galapagos cruise still takes you to the same visitor sites, with naturalist guides certified by the Galapagos National Park. The difference is in the boat, the cabin, and the length of the trip.
We run Galapagos expedition cruises out of Quito, Ecuador, on Galaxy Orion, Galaxy Bonita, and EcoGalaxy. This guide lists the budget-friendly options in our fleet with their 2026 prices, what each one includes, and what you’ll pay on top.
What counts as a moderate budget for a Galapagos cruise?
A moderate Galapagos cruise budget means about $450 to $620 per person per day for the cruise itself in our fleet. At that level, you get a small expedition yacht with private cabins, all meals, and a naturalist guide. Below it are basic boats. Above it are first-class and luxury yachts, where prices start at about $820 per person per day.
Here is how that works out on Galaxy Cruises yachts:
- Galaxy Orion: $450 to $530 per person per day, depending on the route.
- Galaxy Bonita: $580 to $621 per person per day.
- EcoGalaxy (first class): $820 to $850 per person per day.

Galaxy Cruises has three yachts and one day-tour boat that fit a moderate budget. Galaxy Orion has the lowest cruise prices in the fleet, Galaxy Bonita is built for families, EcoGalaxy is the first-class step up, and Galaxy Skape day tours are the lowest entry point.

Galaxy Orion: the most affordable cruise in the Galaxy Cruises fleet
Galaxy Orion is a renovated 14-guest expedition yacht with 8 cabins, a crew of 9, a cruise director, and a bilingual naturalist guide. It is the yacht to look at if price matters most. Its 4-day Southern Route visits San Cristóbal, Española, Floreana, and Santa Cruz. Its 8-day routes add Isabela, Fernandina, Santiago, and Genovesa.
- Cabins: air conditioning, hair dryer, and eco-friendly toiletries, with windows in most main- and upper-deck cabins.
- On board: a dining room with dishes made from local ingredients, social areas, and outdoor decks.
- Gear: snorkel gear, wetsuits, and kayaks. Galaxy Orion doesn’t include paddleboards.
Galaxy Bonita: a family yacht with paddleboards included
Galaxy Bonita is a 16-guest yacht with 8 cabins, designed for families and groups. Every cabin has a private bathroom with shower and air conditioning. Galaxy Bonita has a sun deck with 360° views, a bar, an indoor dining room, and a coffee and tea station open 24 hours. Its 5-day Eastern Route reaches Genovesa, one of the best islands for seabirds.
- Gear: snorkel gear, wetsuits, kayaks, and paddleboards.
- Best for: families who want more activities in the water without moving up to first class.
EcoGalaxy: when it’s worth stretching to first class
EcoGalaxy is a 16-guest first-class catamaran with 8 cabins, built with 50% less wood than a conventional vessel. It costs more per day than Galaxy Orion or Galaxy Bonita. In return, every EcoGalaxy cabin has a private bathroom with shower, air conditioning, a safe, and a hair dryer, and the menu mixes Ecuadorian and international dishes with vegetarian options. Galaxy Skape day tours: Galapagos island hopping on the lowest budget
Galaxy Skape is a 16-guest daily expedition yacht that leaves from Puerto Ayora, on Santa Cruz Island. You sleep in a hotel and join a full-day tour: Bartolomé and Sullivan Bay ($400), North Seymour and Bachas Beach ($380), or South Plaza and Carrion Point ($360). Each tour includes lunch on board, towels, a snorkel mask, and a naturalist guide. Galaxy Skape is also part of our Galapagos island hopping Galaxy Skape and Quito City Tour program. To weigh a hotel-based trip against a full cruise, read should you see the Galapagos on a cruise or stay on the islands.
What does each Galapagos cruise option include?
All Galaxy Cruises yachts include meals, a bilingual naturalist guide, snorkel gear, and wetsuits (request them in your quote). The differences are in the water gear and the extras. Galaxy Orion has no paddleboards, and Galaxy Skape day tours include lunch, not three meals.
Not included on any option: international flights, flights from Quito or Guayaquil to the Galapagos, the Galapagos National Park entrance fee, the Transit Control Card, alcoholic and soft drinks, tips, and travel insurance.
How much does a moderate Galapagos trip cost in total?
A 5-day cruise on Galaxy Orion costs about $3,250 to $3,370 per person once you add the park fee, the Transit Control Card, and flights to the islands. That figure doesn’t include tips, international flights, or hotel nights in Quito. Use it as a starting point for your own Galapagos cruises budget.
Tips are not included in the fare. On a Galaxy cruise, there is a single shared envelope for the whole crew and the naturalist guide, and we accept cash or card. Many Galapagos yachts are cash only, so ask your operator before you fly. Our team can tell you the recommended amount for your yacht and itinerary when you book.
Our guide on how to plan a trip to the Galapagos Islands covers the rest of the trip, from Quito to the islands.
Best small ship Galapagos cruises for a moderate budget
On a moderate budget, a Galapagos small ship of 14 to 16 guests usually gives you more for your money than a large ship. The whole group lands together with one naturalist guide, boarding is quicker, and the yacht can reach smaller visitor sites. Galaxy Orion and Galaxy Bonita are both small ships.
The Galapagos National Park requires one licensed naturalist guide for every group of 16 visitors, according to Lonely Planet. On a 14-guest yacht like Galaxy Orion, that means everyone lands together, in one group. That’s the main reason small ship Galapagos cruises feel more personal, and it’s how small ships reach the islands at the right time.
A Galapagos Islands small ship cruise also changes the pace of the day: fewer people means quicker panga boarding and more time at each site. If you’re comparing Galapagos small ship cruises, ask each operator the same three questions:
- How many guests share each naturalist guide?
- Which islands does the itinerary visit, day by day?
- What’s included, and what will I pay on board?
How to make a budget Galapagos cruise go further
The easiest ways to save are to choose a 5-day route instead of an 8-day one, pick your travel dates carefully, and ask for current offers. A budget-friendly Galapagos cruise still covers the essentials, so don’t cut the things that shape the trip, like the itinerary and the guide.
- Pick the right length. A 5-day cruise gives you three full days on the islands. If you have more time, the 8-day Galaxy Orion routes cost about the same per day as the 5-day route.
- Choose your month with care. Prices and availability change through the year. Our guide to the best time to visit the Galapagos Islands explains what you’ll see in each month.
- Ask for current offers. Check for promotions available on your dates when you request a quote.
- Pack smart. Every Galaxy yacht provides towels, toiletries, dry bags, and reusable water bottles. Our Galapagos packing list tells you what you can leave at home.
What’s the best budget Galapagos cruise?
The best budget Galapagos cruise is the one whose itinerary matches what you want to see. In the Galaxy Cruises fleet, Galaxy Orion has the lowest 2026 prices, Galaxy Bonita includes paddleboards and suits families, and Galaxy Skape is the cheapest way in if you prefer a hotel.
Can I find a cheap Galapagos cruise last minute?
Sometimes. A cheap Galapagos cruise last minute depends on open cabins and on finding flights to the islands at short notice. If your dates are flexible, ask us which departures still have space. For a Galapagos islands cruise cheap enough to fit a tight budget, start with the 4- and 5-day routes, which cost less than the 8-day ones.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a moderate-budget Galapagos cruise cost?
In 2026, Galaxy Orion starts at $1,800 per person for 4 days and $2,650 for 5 days. Galaxy Bonita starts at $2,900 for 5 days. Add $220 in park fees and your flight to the islands.
Is Galaxy Orion a budget cruise?
Galaxy Orion is a renovated 14-guest expedition yacht with the lowest cruise prices in the Galaxy Cruises fleet. Its cabins have air conditioning, and the price includes all meals, a naturalist guide, snorkel gear, wetsuits, and kayaks.
Are flights included in a Galapagos cruise price?
No. Flights from Quito or Guayaquil to the Galapagos, the $200 park entrance fee, and the $20 Transit Control Card are paid separately on all our yachts.
Can I travel solo on a Galapagos cruise?
Yes. Cabins sleep two guests, in twin or double beds, so a solo traveler books the cabin at single occupancy with a supplement. Ask for single occupancy when you request your quote and we’ll confirm the supplement for your yacht and dates.
Is island hopping cheaper than a Galapagos cruise?
Often, yes, because you pay for a hotel and individual day tours instead of a full cruise. Galaxy Skape day tours cost $360–$400 per person. A cruise reaches more remote islands, which is why many travelers think a Galapagos cruise is worth it.
Do budget Galapagos cruises include snorkel gear?
On Galaxy Orion, Galaxy Bonita, and EcoGalaxy, yes: mask, snorkel, fins, and wetsuits. Ask for wetsuits when you book so we can reserve your size.
Your Galapagos budget, planned with real numbers
A moderate budget doesn’t mean a lesser Galapagos trip. It means choosing the right boat, the right number of days, and the right month, and knowing the full cost before you book. Galaxy Orion, Galaxy Bonita, EcoGalaxy, and Galaxy Skape cover that range with prices you can check today.
