Hurtigruten

The name Finnmarken has a proud history within Hurtigruten, with two former ships taking the same title. The first, DS Finnmarken, was a steamship built in 1912. This was replaced by the motorship, MS Finnmarken, in 1956. The former was a classic icon of elegant Norwegian sea travel, with carved wooden interior ornamentation. The latter is a showcase from the golden age of post-war coastal liners. The present-day MS Finnmarken – which sailed under the name MS Otto Sverdrup between 2021 and 2025 – was constructed in 2002 and underwent renovation in 2020. Natural Scandinavian materials like granite, oak, birch and wool were used in the refurb to create a relaxed and stylish atmosphere that adds to the premium feel while on board. To bring the ship right up to date, a 2025 upgrade has seen the pool deck refined, as well as other technical improvements implemented. This comfortable ship offers the chance to indulge yourself in the wellness area, complete with gym, treatment rooms and sauna. You can enjoy a heated swimming pool and hot tubs on Deck 7, while outdoor observation areas are located on the two middle and uppermost decks. MS Finnmarken is a hybrid-powered ship with battery packs that enable greater fuel efficiency and lower NOx and CO2 emissions. It is also equipped for shore power connectivity, which cuts emissions when docked in ports where shore power is available. On many of our voyages, you can visit and board DS Finnmarken and the first MS Finnmarken at the Hurtigruten Museum in Stokmarknes. Having been found and ‘rescued’ from a field in the Netherlands, only some interior sections of DS Finnmarken have survived, while MS Finnmarken has been fully restored to her former grandeur. Children Policy

A child is defined as 2–15 years old at the time of sailing (6–17 years on short voyages of 5 days or less). Child sharing a cabin with two adults: up to 50% off the child's cruise portion. Child with one adult: up to 20% off. Cot hire: 130 NOK per voyage; infants may share a bed with their parents.

Third Person Policy

Third-guest occupancy depends on the ship and cabin category's physical bedding configuration. Triple availability on a specific sailing should be confirmed with Hurtigruten Guest Services.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be submitted in writing. Termination fees scale with the notice period before departure per Hurtigruten's General Terms & Conditions and applicable package travel regulations. The 'Book with Confidence' option permits cancellation up to 14 days before departure with a refund of fares paid (less deposit and a per-passenger cancellation fee). Refunds are processed within 14 days for direct bookings; travel-agent bookings follow the agent's own refund schedule.

Name Change Fee

Name changes are permitted subject to the fee stated on the booking confirmation. Request changes in writing via Hurtigruten Guest Services or your travel agent.

Wi-Fi & Communications

Complimentary satellite WiFi is available onboard. Guests on Basic fares or port-to-port sailings receive complimentary WiFi upon enrolment in the 1893 Ambassador loyalty programme. Bandwidth is suitable for browsing and messaging; streaming is not supported.
