The newest addition to our fleet honors the heritage of her namesake – the Norwegian explorer, scientist, humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Fridtjof Nansen. Known for his innovations in Arctic expeditions, Nansen led the first crossing of Greenland on cross-country skis. He is perhaps most famous for his attempt to reach the geographical North Pole during the Fram Expedition (1893-1896). Interestingly, after Nansen's Fram expedition, the ship was passed on to another great explorer who secretly planned an expedition to the South Pole - Roald Amundsen.

You will also pass by unique rock formations, known locally as 'stone runs', while you take in the beautiful, rugged landscape. The king penguin colony is located between a white-sand beach and a lagoon, which makes for fantastic photographic opportunities and fosters an abundance of wildlife. Stroll along the beach and see all three penguin species together. There are also many species of birds to be seen in this area, including Magellanic snipes, dark-faced ground tyrants, Falkland pipits, and upland geese. This is an all-round Falkland experience.
