Hurtigruten

Named after our first coastal steamship of 1893, MS Vesterålen keeps alive the spirit, craftsmanship and working rhythm that defined the earliest Coastal Express sailings. Her 2025 refurbishment refreshed 100 cabins and introduced new Arctic Superiors and Mini Suites, while preserving her classic character that features plenty of polished brass and wood. Traditional décor and curated classical Norwegian art create the feeling of sailing aboard a floating gallery of coastal culture. With around half the passenger capacity of our larger ships, life on board feels personal and unhurried. Guests enjoy closer access to the crew, with open bridge visits and informal talks that offer insight into navigation and daily life on a working coastal ship. Booking & Cancellation Policies

Children Policy

A child is defined as 2–15 years old at the time of sailing (6–17 years on short voyages of 5 days or less). Child sharing a cabin with two adults: up to 50% off the child's cruise portion. Child with one adult: up to 20% off. Cot hire: 130 NOK per voyage; infants may share a bed with their parents.

Third Person Policy

Third-guest occupancy depends on the ship and cabin category's physical bedding configuration. Triple availability on a specific sailing should be confirmed with Hurtigruten Guest Services.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be submitted in writing. Termination fees scale with the notice period before departure per Hurtigruten's General Terms & Conditions and applicable package travel regulations. The 'Book with Confidence' option permits cancellation up to 14 days before departure with a refund of fares paid (less deposit and a per-passenger cancellation fee). Refunds are processed within 14 days for direct bookings; travel-agent bookings follow the agent's own refund schedule.

Name Change Fee

Name changes are permitted subject to the fee stated on the booking confirmation. Request changes in writing via Hurtigruten Guest Services or your travel agent.

Wi-Fi & Communications

Complimentary satellite WiFi is available onboard. Guests on Basic fares or port-to-port sailings receive complimentary WiFi upon enrolment in the 1893 Ambassador loyalty programme. Bandwidth is suitable for browsing and messaging; streaming is not supported.
